To Win Is To Withdraw

Conceptual Installation, 2025
36 x 28 cm
CNC laser-cut text on aluminium, acrylic sheet

To Win is to Withdraw is a conceptual work rooted in philosophical inquiry. Through linguistic reconstruction and conceptual juxtaposition, the work explores the dialectical relationship between “victory” and “withdrawal” within human behavior, understood as a continuous form of play shaped by social structures and personal intention. The text presents a dual proposition to examine the dynamic tensions between control, desire, and liberation.

The work consists two parts: the engraved text on transparent acrylic offers a human interpretation of the infinite game, an open-ended play of meaning, withdrawal, and reflection. On the other hand, the G-code engraved onto the aluminum plate responds to the finite game, it is a sequence of spatial instructions generated from the given text, guiding the machine to carve the physical trajectory of writing. Each parts plays in their own way, one interpretive, the other procedural, coexisting within a shared structure of action and meaning.
